VET: Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216)

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VET in Schools) are programs undertaken by school students as part of the senior secondary certificate that provide credit towards a nationally recognised VET qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216) is available as a VET is School program and is the entry level qualification for the hairdressing industry.

This course will prepare you to effectively work as an assistant in a hairdressing salon where you will work under the direct supervision of a qualified hairdresser. You will gain the knowledge and skills to support hairdressers in a salon – in particular with shampooing, colouring, blow-drying and braiding hair, maintaining hairdressing tools, scheduling appointments, recommending and selling products, and applying workplace health and safety.

Successful students will graduate with a nationally recognised qualification which can be used to seek employment as a Salon Assistant (on weekends or after school) or as a pathway to a hairdressing apprenticeship.

The successful completion of the units of competency is recognised towards 45 SACE Credits. If students decide to continue studies after gaining this qualification, some units may be available for credit transfer.

Additional information about this course is contained within the Course Brochure. To make an enquiry, please phone 8223 5600.
